Apr 23 Free ACL Injury Screening
Free ACL Injury Screening
Sunday, April 23rd at 9am
BEAST Training Academy
2465 East Joliet Highway, New Lenox

  • According to the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, over 150,000 ACL injuries occur every year
  • Female athletes are at a substantially higher risk (more than 70%) than males
  • ACL injuries often require surgery, 6-12 months of rehabilitation and recovery time, high costs, and may ultimately end an athlete’s career
  • Research has shown that a comprehensive strength, core and conditioning program can help reduce an athlete’s risk of sustaining such an injury

The first step is identifying if you are at risk!

BEAST Training Academy & JointPro Physical Therapy are teaming up to offer ACL Injury Screens.

We will conduct a series of tests and provide you with a score card that will help identify your personal risks for sustaining an ACL injury.

To Register:

 contact Phil Pfeifer at  ppfeifer@beasttrainingacademy.com

You cannot prevent all ACL injuries but you can minimize the chances of an injury occurring by identifying and lowering your current level of risk!

Apr 25 “Kick for a Cure” Event

On Tuesday, April 25, 2017, Lincoln-Way West will host Lincoln-Way East in the annual “Kick for a Cure” Event.  The junior varsity game will begin at 4:30 p.m., and the varsity game will begin shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Since 2010, over $30,000 has been raised by Lincoln-Way Boys and Girls Soccer Programs; the money has been donated to Silver Cross Cancer Foundation. During halftime of the varsity game, Larry Johnson of the Silver Cross Executive Team will receive the schools’ donation from the previous fall season.

“Watching this event grow over the years continues to be a rewarding experience for everyone involved,” says Lincoln-Way West Head Soccer Coach, Jeff Theiss. “What once began as a small event to raise awareness for an extremely important cause, has evolved into an entire community coming together in an attempt to make a significant impact in the fight against breast cancer. Additionally, it always makes me proud as a coach to watch our athletes maintain the integrity of the game in such a highly competitive environment because they know they are fighting for a bigger cause.”

This is the eighth year that Lincoln-Way soccer teams have raised money for Breast Cancer Awareness. Currently, “Kick for a Cure” has joined forces with four local youth soccer clubs in the fight against breast cancer. These clubs include the Chicago Fire Juniors, Legacy Soccer Club, Manhattan Ignite, and Tinley Frankfort Soccer Club. Additionally, parent volunteers, Junior ROTC, and over 100 Lincoln-Way athletes participate in the event.

The order of events will be:

4:30 p.m.:  LWW/LWE junior varsity match

5:50 p.m.: Chicago Fire scrimmage/Manhattan Ignite scrimmage 6:00 p.m.: LWW/LWE varsity warm-up

6:15 p.m.: Presentation of Colors by Lincoln-Way Junior ROTC

6:20 p.m.: World Cup introductions/names read of those affected by cancer

6:30 p.m.: National Anthem to be sung by Colleen Wright

6:35 p.m.: Varsity soccer match between LWW and LWE

7:15 p.m.:  Halftime of LWW/LWE varsity match
  • Presentation of Fall 2016 “Kick for a Cure” donation to Larry Johnson
  • Tinley-Frankfort Soccer Club will scrimmage on north half of field
  • Legacy Soccer Club will scrimmage on south half of field

*Raffle winners will be announced during halftime of the varsity match.

Apr 26 Arthritis Joint Pain
Listen in as Dr. Paul Trksak, orthopedic surgeon affiliated with The Midwest Institute for Robotic Surgery at Silver Cross Hospital, answer questions and discuss Stryker’s new Mako™ Robotic-Arm assisted technology and how it provides a personalized surgical plan for total hip and partial knee replacements. The program will be held Wednesday, April 26 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and include light refreshments. Participants will have a chance to win a $50 Amazon Gift Card. Seating is limited. Register to attend atpatients.stryker.com/seminars or call 1-888-STRYKER (787-9537).

Silver Cross is the only facility in Will, Grundy and Kankakee Counties offering Mako robotic-arm assisted procedures for adults living with early to mid-stage osteoarthritis. This new technology helps provide more accurate placement and alignment of a patient’s implant – all through a minimal incision.

Mako Partial Knee Replacement is less invasive than traditional total knee surgery. A pre-surgical plan is created based on a CT scan of the patient’s own knee and the surgeon uses the robotic arm during surgery to resurface the diseased portion of the knee, sparing healthy bone and surrounding tissue for a more natural feeling knee. An implant is then secured in the joint to allow the knee to move smoothly again.

During Mako Total Hip Replacement surgery, the Mako system provides visualization of the joint and biomechanical data to guide the bone preparation and implant positioning to match the pre-surgical plan. After first preparing the femur or thighbone, the surgeon uses the robotic arm to accurately ream and shape the acetabulum socket in the hip, and then implant the cup at the correct depth and orientation. The surgeon then implants the femoral implant.

To ensure that joint replacement is a success, patients attend a special program to learn exactly what to anticipate before and after the surgery, the daily expectations of rehabilitation therapy, and what you can do to recover more quickly. If additional care is needed, patients benefit from Silver Cross Home Health and The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (RIC) at Silver Cross Hospital for inpatient and outpatient therapy. RIC has been ranked as the #1 Rehab hospital by U.S. News & World Report for 26 years in a row.
