NLFPD: Toys for Tots
The New Lenox Fire Protection District is now collecting items for Toys for Tots. Area residents will be able to drop off new, unwrapped toys at each of the four fire stations.
Collection dates will be November 6th through December 6th. Any toys collected after that date will be delivered to the New Lenox Township and Silver Cross Hospital.
“We are happy to once again support the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve with their Toys for Tots Program,” stated NLFPD’s Fire Chief, Adam Riegel. “Last year we were able to collect several hundred toys for less fortunate children in our area with the help of our district’s residents.”
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.

Donations for Elderly Veterans
Elderly Veterans at Manteno Need Your Donations!
American Legion Post 1977 is collecting personal items for the Illinois Veterans Home-Manteno. Many of these elderly Veterans have no living relatives so we are their only family. They proudly served in the United States Armed Forces. Now, they need our help.
Please donate new, unopened items and food products. Needed most are:
- Sweat pants (M-XXL)
- Sweat shirts (M-XXL)
- Railroad and Diabetic socks, which our wheel chair bound Veterans wear through quickly. PLEASE DO NOT LET THEM FACE WINTER WITHOUT SOCKS!
All donations can be placed in the footlocker conveniently located at the North entrance of the Canteen. The American Legion is located at 14414 Ford Dr. New Lenox, IL
Nov 20 - Dec 20
Holiday Diaper Drive
What: Diapers, baby wipes, and diaper rash cream
Where: Rep. McDermed's office, 11032 W Lincoln Hwy, Frankfort
When: November 20th to December 20th
This month long drive will help to address the struggle young, and often single, mothers have in keeping their infant or toddler clean, dry, and healthy. Donations will be collected at Rep. McDermed’s district office and will benefit Catholic Charities expectant mother program and Journey, a local non-profit organization that helps young women and families in need.
In Illinois 52% of births are covered by Medicaid and 23% of families live below the poverty line. However, there are no government subsidies to help purchase diapers and wipes, products which are taxed at the highest sales tax rate.
“It’s the season of giving and in lieu of a food or clothing drive, I wanted to bring attention to an under-served, but still very important, need in our community,” Rep McDermed said. “Most people don’t realize that government assistance programs, like food stamps, don’t cover diapers. As a community, we are measured most by how we take care of those who are down on their luck. I am asking residents to share their good fortune this season and help others who are struggling.”
