Clinical depression is a common medical illness affecting more than 19 million American adults each year. Like screenings for other illnesses, depression screenings should be a routine part of healthcare.  Silver Cross will offer a written test and confidential meeting with a behavioral health professional Thursday, Oct. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.  Register to attend at  www.silvercross.org.
 

Help for people who have lost loved ones

Wednesday, October 12 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. the New Lenox Area Historical Society will host Oktoberfest “All You Can Eat” German dinner at the Harry Andersen VFW hall, 323 Old Hickory Road.  

There will be a silent auction of various items donated by local businesses and friends of the society.  Also face painting and balloons for kids.  

Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for children 10 and under and free for children under 3 years. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance by calling 815-485-5576.

their annual dinner event - Oktoberfest!   Held on Wednesday, October 12th, 2016 at the New Lenox VFW from 4 to 8.    We have $125 and $250 sponsorships and appreciate the community and businesses support!    100% of proceeds go to Schmuhl School, One-Room Schoolhouse where area students spend the day learning what school and life was like in 1930's New Lenox.  

Gift baskets for the silent auction are also very much appreciated and $100 placemat ads can be purchased.    100% of the proceeds benefit Schmuhl School and the programs.

Wolfs Sealcoating Inc. invites you to help support the Belmont Little League through their 1st Annual Softball Fundraiser on Saturday, October 15! 

"We want our kids and everyone else to have great experience when they come to or play at the ball field. We are trying to raise awareness but more importantly funds to help secure a new score board, fix a score board, purchase a PA system for announcements, refresh the fields, and update the dugouts, bleachers and concession stand. Any help is appreciated," shared Shannon Wolf, Wolfs Sealcoating Inc. 

New Lenox area residents are united to stop by any of the New Lenox Fire Protection District's (NLFPD) fire houses the morning of Saturday October 15th

"Many people have never stopped by their local firehouses," said Dan turner, New Lenox Fire Marshal. "We thougth that this would give our residents an opportunity to do that and meet the firefighters that cover their area of town"

The primary mission of the New Lenox Fire and Ambulance protection District is to provide a range if programs designed to protect that lives and property within New Lenox Village and Township from the effects for fires and sudden medical emergencies or exposure to dangerous conditions created by man or nature with professional, compassionate, and quality service.

Pant For The Pantry 5k Run is being held on October 16, 2016!
Pant for the pantry is a 5K run/walk that helps to support our local food pantry.  For the past five years we have donated over $50,000 or $10,000 a year to the New Lenox food pantry, along with thousands of food items. Our food drive coupled with the two non-perishable food items donated per runner assist us in supporting food pantries in surrounding bank areas. We look forward to continuing this effort for years to come.

Old Plank Trail Community Bank is proud to announce the 6th Annual Pant for the Pantry 5K, to be held on October 16, 2016. The race will be held in midtown New Lenox with the start and finish lines at Old Plank Trail Community Bank, located at 280 Veterans Parkway in New Lenox.

KIDS RACE! The half mile fun run is for our young runners age 10 and under. The Kids Race begins at 9:30 am. We hope you’ll join us for this fun-filled day!

Come to our not-so-spooky Dino-Mite Kids Club Halloween Party

Princesses and Superheroes are coming to our after-school Dino-Mite party to read child-friendly Halloween stories - and we want you and your child to come too! We’ll also enjoy snacks and juice boxes and visit with Anna, Elsa and Superheroes!

Every child will receive a FREE pumpkin and treat bag!

Visit our New Lenox branch between 4 and 5 pm on Wednesday, October 19th, dressed in your Halloween costume if you’d like. Neither your child nor you has to have an account with us to attend the party or be in our Dino-Mite Kids Club, but you’ll need to reserve your child’s place by calling 815-463-7002 by October 17th.

Attendees may utilize the free valet service at the Madison St. entrance #2.  Wheelchairs will be provided along with walking assistance to the Auditorium as needed.  AFTERGLOW provides support to stroke survivors and their caregivers.  The group is survivor driven, facilitated by professionals, offering support, education, and resources to transition into a new normal.

The Parkinson?s Support Group was established for those with Parkinson?s disease and their families as a place to learn and share. During support group meetings, participants will have an opportunity to listen to speakers address topics of particular interest to individuals who have Parkinson?s disease, as well as their family members. Future topics of discussion include diet, speech and swallowing, sleep problems, family member involvement, stress management, and handwriting. Participants will also have an opportunity to share their experiences and learn from the experiences? of others.
 
The support group meets the third Wednesday of each month from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (No meetings in July or December.) For more information, call 815.741.7562.

This event is being hosted by the Heather Glen Home Owners Association in conjunction with the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association (LWSRA). The purpose of this event is to raise funds for the Community Inclusive playground that will be used by LWSRA participants and the community. LWSRA provides recreational opportunities for individuals with disabilities.

Join the LWSRA for some Halloween fun at their fourth annual Trunk or Treat Event. Come out in costume and trick or treat with LWSRA in this fun and safe environment. This FREE event is open to the public and includes a mini haunted house. Staff supervision will not be provided.

This event will run rain or shine. In case of inclement weather, we will move the event inside our gymnasium.

On Saturday, October 29, 2016, Lincoln-Way Central Student Council will host “Halloween Knight.” This event invites children ages 11 and under to dress up and trick-or-treat inside the building.
 
The event will take place between 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Although there is no cost for admittance, student council has requested that each child bring one canned good to be donated to the New Lenox Food pantry.
 
“Fun Fair” tickets may be purchased at the end of the trick-or-treat route where children may have their faces painted, play games, and win prizes.

Team Harper: At only 8 days old, Harper Elam was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. She takes approximately 22 pills per day, has two 30-minute physical therapy session per day and does two breathing treatments per day. When she's sick, the therapy and treatments double. She is a real warrior! She is always smiling and tries not to let CF control her life. She goes forward, jumping in with both feet. And now we are trying to "STRIKE OUT CF" and need your help!
