On Sunday, May 1, 2016, New Lenox will host its annual Loyalty Day Parade. As in the past, the parade is sponsored by the VFW Post 9545 of New Lenox. Approximate parade times are 2 to 4 p.m. The parade starts at the Lions Den (Old Library) on S. Cedar, proceeds North on Cedar, West on Haven, North on Veterans Parkway to the Veterans Memorial on the New Lenox Commons.

WotNow is an app that will be a one-stop for residents and consumers to learn about events and deals going on in their area. For this year, WotNow's theme is "Connected Communities". Their focus is on public organizations like city services, chambers of commerce, park districts, school districts and libraries. In the presentation, they will talk about the need for digitally connected communities and how WotNow can help residents, organizations and businesses to enrich lives and grow their business.

New Lenox Township schedules their annual Clean Up Day for the first Saturday in May during the hours of 6:00am and 12:00 noon. NuWay Disposal picks up non-hazardous items such as old refrigerators, washers, dryers, water heaters, furniture and small amounts of construction materials that are placed in containers. There is no additional charge for this service. Items need to be at curbside by 6:00am to assure pick-up. For further information call 815-485-6431.

Silver Cross Hospital offers an AHA Healthcare Provider CPR Class for LPNs, RNs, Paramedics, EMTs, and CNAs. Participants will learn one and two person, infant, child and adult CPR as well as rescue from choking.  Class will be held on Saturday, May 7 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. 22nd Century Media presents its third annual Lady - A Women's Expo presented by Meijer from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.Saturday, May 7, at the Tinley Park Convention Center. TOUCH A TRUCK 

Put your imagination in gear and go! Come climb on and explore your favorite vehicles including fire engines, police cars and construction trucks. How often does anyone get to look inside any of these unusual vehicles and get to talk to someone who operates them? It will be a day that will be remembered! Parent supervision is required and cameras are highly recommended.

USTA TENNIS PLAY DAY 

Want to give tennis a try and see what it is all about? This is the time to come out and experiment. We will be set-up on the basketball court at Walker Country Estates Park during the Touch-a-Truck event, so come over and play a little tennis for free! No registration required! We would like to thank the Lincoln Way area businesses for all they do for our community. It is important for us to support our local businesses as wel las help our community grow.

Our mission is to help the young athletes at Lincoln-Way Central HS by providing them with the tools they need to succeed on and off the playing field.

In the last two years, we have provided scholarships to 56 students, volleyball, basketball and soccer uniforms, cheerleading mats, wrestling mats, weight lighting racks in the weight room, Special Olympics participant t-shirts, and field tarps for baseball and softball, just to name a few.
 
We are proud and very thankful for the continued support of our sponsors. One of our main fundraisers is the annual Fall Ad Book. It is available to all Lincoln-Way Central students and their families during the fall athletic season. Ads are available in different levels depending on your budget, the lowest being just $100.

Gwendolyn J. Sterk and the Family Law Group are hosting their Chamber Business After Hours Hawaiian Pig Roast Luau on Wednesday, May 18!

Attendees may utilize the free valet service at the Madison St. entrance #2.  Wheelchairs will be provided along with walking assistance to the Auditorium as needed.  AFTERGLOW provides support to stroke survivors and their caregivers.  The group is survivor driven, facilitated by professionals, offering support, education, and resources to transition into a new normal.

The Parkinson’s Support Group was established for those with Parkinson’s disease and their families as a place to learn and share. During support group meetings, participants will have an opportunity to listen to speakers address topics of particular interest to individuals who have Parkinson’s disease, as well as their family members. Future topics of discussion include diet, speech and swallowing, sleep problems, family member involvement, stress management, and handwriting. Participants will also have an opportunity to share their experiences and learn from the experiences’ of others.
 
The support group meets the third Wednesday of each month from 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (No meetings in July or December.) For more information, call 815.741.7562.
