Feb 13 New Lenox Fire Foundation Pancake Breakfast

The New Lenox Fire Foundation pancake breakfasts will be starting up again for the winter months. The breakfasts are held at the New Lenox Fire Protection District’s Station 1, located at 261 E. Maple Street from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. one Saturday per month from October through March.

The breakfasts are free to the public; however those who attend are encouraged to bring canned goods and other food items for the local food pantry.

Feb 17 AFTERGLOW Stroke Support Group

Attendees may utilize the free valet service at the Madison St. entrance #2.  Wheelchairs will be provided along with walking assistance to the Auditorium as needed.  AFTERGLOW provides support to stroke survivors and their caregivers.  The group is survivor driven, facilitated by professionals, offering support, education, and resources to transition into a new normal

Feb 17 Parkinson's Support Group

The Parkinson’s Support Group was established for those with Parkinson’s disease and their families as a place to learn and share. During support group meetings, participants will have an opportunity to listen to speakers address topics of particular interest to individuals who have Parkinson’s disease, as well as their family members. Future topics of discussion include diet, speech and swallowing, sleep problems, family member involvement, stress management, and handwriting. Participants will also have an opportunity to share their experiences and learn from the experiences’ of others.

Feb 23 Healing Heartburn & Barrett's Esophagus
Acid reflux or chronic heartburn can be more than an inconvenience.  Heartburn, acid reflux (also referred to as gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD) and Barrett’s esophagus are digestive disorders that if left untreated can progress to more serious conditions.  Barrett’s esophagus patients have a 5% chance of the disease progressing to esophageal cancer over a 10-year span.  Dr. Ashish Shah, gastroenterologist, will discuss the risks and treatment options for these conditions on Tuesday, Feb. 23.  The free Healing Heartburn & Barrett’s Esophagus program will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Silver Cross Hospital Conference Center, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox.  Register to attend at www.silvercross.org or call 1-888-660-HEAL (4325).

Feb 24 Ladies Go Red

Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center (PSJMC) is hosting a Ladies Go Red event at their Presence Healing Arts Pavilion (410 East Lincoln Highway, New Lenox, Ill.) on Wednesday, February 24, 2016, at 6:00 p.m.
 
Cardiologist Mary Gordon, M.D., Presence Medical Group, will present information and answer questions regarding women and heart disease. She will also discuss the latest research to beat and treat the number one killer of women–heart attacks. Additionally, Interventional Radiologist Noah Schwind, M.D., will discuss Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE). UFE is a minimally invasive treatment alternative to hysterectomy and other invasive surgeries for those who suffer from excessive bleeding, pelvic pain or pressure.
