Event Description:
Providence Catholic High School’s Music Department will host its fifth annual “Music Step-Up Night” for students in grades 6-8 on Thursday, February 12 from 4 pm – 8 pm. This event is open to students with or without musical experience. Participants will have the opportunity to sing and/or play with the Providence Catholic Band and Choir. The band program is under the direction of Mr. Robert Sanchez and the choir program is under the direction of Dr. Stacy Eckert.
There is no charge to participate in this event, however, pre-registration is required. Participants should enter through door # 9 (Gym Entrance); check-in begins at 3:30 pm. Dinner for student participants will be provided. Families are invited to enjoy a combined concert in the Sacred Heart Gymnasium at 7:00 pm, where students will perform with the PCHS band and choir.
The Providence Catholic Band has performed in many local and state festivals, contests and competitions. “The Spirit of Providence” Marching Band has had numerous 1st place awards for Best Music, Best Drum Line, Best Auxiliaries and Best General Effect. The Band program currently features two Jazz Bands, two Concert Bands, Percussion Ensemble, Solo and Ensemble, Color Guard and Winter Drum Line. Furthermore, the Band and Color Guard have competed at the State level at Illinois State University for the past several years.
The Singing Celtics often perform in concerts, at charity events and All-School Masses. They have also shared their talents at many community functions including a repeat performance at the Chicago Symphony Center as part of the CSO's Welcome Yule! series. The Singing Celtics have received several Superior ratings at IHSA contests over the past several years. Alumnae of the Singing Celtics have received talent-based scholarships for their collegiate studies, recording contracts and opportunities to perform in Europe.
