“One Fall Can Change It All”
In Support of Older Adults Falls Prevention Awareness Week
The Village of New Lenox and its Safe Community Coalition / Older Adults Falls Prevention Task Group, with the support of New Lenox VFW Post 9545 is pleased to announce that the 2023 “One Fall Can Change It All” event will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2023 from 8:30am to 11:00am at New Lenox VFW Post 9545, 323 Old Hickory Road, New Lenox, IL 60451.
“One Fall Can Change It All” is being held in conjunction with Falls Prevention Awareness Week, which is a nation-wide effort to raise awareness that falls are preventable, and this year’s theme is “From Awareness to Action.” States are encouraged to provide education and screening activities to raise awareness of the impact of falls on older adults, and our New Lenox Safe Community Coalition and its Older Adult Falls Prevention Task Group is planning to do just that!
“One Fall Can Change It All,” a Healthy Aging Fair, will provide seniors with a FREE breakfast, entertainment and a variety of vendors (20+) that will offer health screenings, education, and other services. Featured activities will include a chair yoga demonstration by Arlene Santiago, Health Transformation Coach, and a pain management presentation by Dr. John Mikuzis from Neuragenex. There will be door prizes awarded throughout the morning to keep the fun going.
It’s a fact that falls are the primary cause of injury-related ER visits and accidental deaths in people over the age of 65. 67% of falls don’t happen from a height but rather when individuals slip or trip. As people age, they’re more susceptible to broken bones after a fall. Side effects from medications can also contribute to the increased risk of falling. Recent data seems to indicate that physical inactivity due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a significant increase in falls within our community. The list of facts goes on and on, which underscores the importance of this event – one fall truly can change it all!
To learn more about fall prevention strategies, participate in health and balance screenings, enjoy a FREE breakfast, get moving with chair yoga, get advice on pain management, have a chance to win some great raffle prizes, and turn awareness into action, please plan to join us on Thursday, September 21, 2023 at 8:30am. NO REGISTRATION IS NEEDED!
For additional information, please contact Daniel Martin, Safe Community Coordinator, Village of New Lenox at (815) 462-6493 or email dmartin@newlenox.net.
