Event Description:
Joliet Area Community Hospice (JACH) will hold its spring Family Journey Workshop Series each Thursday in April from 6:00-8:00 pm for individuals and families (ages 5 through adult) who are grieving the loss of a loved one. This four session workshop is open to the public. A fee of $40 per family includes all four sessions, which will be held at 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet.
Each adult session includes a presentation by a hospice bereavement staff member on a grief related topic followed by group support. Children and teenagers will meet separately with counselors and peers.
Understanding Mourning is the April 7 topic where an overview of the grieving process is discussed and the video “Beyond Death’s Door” will help participants listen to the music of the past, sing in the present and dance into the future.
Emotions of Grief will be the subject on April 14. Loss often creates a roller coaster of emotions. Participants will gain an understanding of difficult feelings and the barriers associated with grieving. As Dr. Seuss says, we have Many Colored Days.
Coping Skills is the April 21 topic where participants are introduced to various coping skills to assist in dealing with the grief bursts that occur daily.
Remembering will round out the series on April 28 when the importance of sharing stories and envisioning life without our loved ones will be discussed. Families will be encouraged to bring photos and memorabilia of their loved ones.
Registration is requested by contacting Mary Ann Burns at 815-460-3282 or mburns@joliethospice.org.
