“Building and Supporting Healthy Relationships”
In Support of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month
The New Lenox Safe Community Coalition, in partnership with Guardian Angel Community Services and Lincoln-Way Community High School District #210, is offering a FREE presentation entitled “Building and Supporting Healthy Relationships.” The event will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 3:30pm to 5:30pm in the Knights of the Round Table Room at Lincoln-Way CENTRAL High School, 1801 E. Lincoln Highway, New Lenox, IL. Guests are asked to use the school’s main entrance and will be directed to the Knights of the Round Table Room. Students, parents and anyone that would like to attend are welcome.
The “Building and Supporting Healthy Relationships” event is rooted in providing teens with tools that they can use to ensure the relationships they are building are healthy. It will also provide them with information on how to support their peers in relationships.
During this event, Guardian Angel Community Services' Sexual Assault Service Center (SASC) will hold a discussion to address how all relationships live on a spectrum from healthy to abusive with unhealthy living somewhere in between. The discussion will explore what type of characteristics accompany each type of relationship, with a focus on warning signs that are often common in teen dating violence. The main goal of the discussion will be teaching attendees how to build healthy relationships and what to do if a relationship becomes unhealthy, or even abusive.
To wrap-up the discussion, methods will be shared that can be utilized to support someone (through the use of local and national resources) who might be in an unhealthy or abusive relationship. Handouts and a QR code with additional information on what teen dating violence is and how to support individuals in unhealthy and abusive relationships, will also be provided. At the end of the discussion, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a community service act by organizing donated items that have been collected for the Crisis Center for South Suburbia.
